2010 Dealer Conference

The beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida hosted this year’s Goodyear Dealer Conference. The 111-year old company, which measures sales of nearly $20 billion, made every effort to impress. For an audience of thousands, the production, which Gary John staged, featured new product launches with video montages, multimedia presentations performances by a drum and flag corp and special guest star Reba McEntire!


American Musicals Project –
Oklahoma & Paint Your Wagon

AMP has created a series of ten curriculum resource guides for 7th and 8th grade teachers, using American musical theater masterworks and evocative primary sources from the museum’s vast collection. This concert, which Gary John will direct, is a fundraiser for the organization and will feature Broadway luminaries singing from these two classic scores. Hosted and narrated by the esteemed Ted Chapin, this will be a night to remember as Arts and Education come together in a most melodic way!

Dunkin’ Brands, Inc. leads and builds great brands at the forefront of the Quick Quality segment of the food and beverage industry. The 2010 Dunkin’ Brands Profitability & Growth Conference is being held at the New Orleans Convention Center and Gary John will stage the opening. The initial ceremonies, which will feature marching bands, multimedia and exciting entertainers are the precursor to an inspiring week of innovative meetings, trade shows, a product expo and celebratory events.

In a small Ohio town, 8-year old Ethan Hale falls through the ice and miraculously is saved. But no one sees the rescue and no one steps forward as the hero. So when Ethan insists that it was a "birdman," the townspeople embark on a journey into their individual faith and doubt, their collective hope, and what it means to be extraordinary. A wonderful new work from Aaron McAllister (music) and Daryl Lisa Fazio (book & lyrics), Gary John is thrilled to direct this New York premiere.

Gary John makes his Ogunquit debut directing and choreographing this Rogers & Hammerstein classic. Rex Smith, the stage, TV and recording star plays Captain von Trapp with a cast that also features Tony Nominees, Meg Bussert and Crista Moore. Based on Maria Von Trapp's autobiography, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, this production is sure to be a moving and memorable summer production on this historic New England stage that is deemed "America's Foremost Summer Theatre."


SHOUT!

Shout! is the mod musical magazine that brings back the beautiful “birds” and smashing songs that made England swing in the 1960’s. With dozens of musical hits (think Dusty, Petula and Lulu) Shout! chronicles the dawning of women’s liberation through the unforgettable music of the period. Directing and choreographing this production, Gary John makes his sixth visit to this charming summer stock theatre. This female “British Invasion” will no doubt storm the Arundel box office, come August!

Wilkommen to the world of Sally Bowles and Berlin, before the start of the Third Reich. This landmark, Tony Award-winning Best Musical of 1967 will mark Gary John’s return as Guest Artist in Residence for the Department of Theatre & Dance at SUNY Buffalo, where once again he will direct and choreograph. The ever-popular musical features such songs as “Don’t Tell Mama,” “The Money Song,” the haunting “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” and the tour-de-force title song.


Seminars and Workshops

Gary John will be a guest lecturer and give theatre workshops for visiting universities through the NY division of Actor’s Connection in conjunction with the students' Senior Class Agent Showcases in NYC. In addition he will repeat these duties as a guest artist at Doane College in Nebraska.


New Works

Gary John is currently involved with two completed scripts that are in development; one play and one musical that he will direct. Both are strong scripts with great heart and modest cast sizes. Another unique project is a new musical revue of a Grammy Award-winning composer/lyricist's hits that Gary John has conceived and written, and will direct and choreograph as well.
