Working with ADM Productions once again, the event featured numerous surprises and was a memorable one for all involved.

In an age of retail chains and big boxes, True Value understands that customers still value quality products, exceptional service and expert advice. This diverse group of retailers operates True Value stores and specialty businesses in thousands of communities in the United States and around the globe. Gary John worked with LI-based ADM productions on this Annual Meeting, directing and staging dozens of performers, along with leading company executives – all in celebration of the company’s trend-setting 2016 accomplishments and the brightly forecast 2017 year ahead.

Choice Hotels

Choice Hotels International is one of the largest and most successful lodging companies in the world. Featuring eleven different brands, they have a hotel for every style and price range. For the sixth year in a row, Gary John will stage their Annual Meeting and Awards Gala at Las Vegas’ elegant Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center. Celebrating 78 years of excellence, the show will feature their newest ideas, products and properties– Las Vegas style! With a (secret) well-known television celebrity guest host and dazzling multimedia presentations, a first-class awards show, it will be an event like no other!

9 to 5
(Opening: August, 2017 –
Playhouse on the Square, Memphis, TN


Based on the classic 1980 film comedy and featuring a winning score by Dolly Parton, Gary John eagerly returns to POTS for a ninth time. Opening the 39th season on the Mainstage, he will direct and stage this hilarious 2009 Tony-nominated Broadway musical in its regional premiere. Gary John is excited to dive into the crazy-office world of Violet, Judy, Doralee and their inimitable and infamous boss, Franklin Hart! (And, he suspects it may be more shockingly timely than one would expect!)

Axelrod Performing Arts Center, Deal, NJ


Gary John is very excited to work on this brand-new musical (Book and Lyrics by J. Laurence Lowenstein and Music by Gerald H. Bailey) that will play a limited engagement at the beautiful Axelrod PAC. In Thing, an aspiring actor, faces hardships and setbacks on the road to wild success in Hollywood, only to discover a whole new set of struggles and revelations that come along with his newfound celebrity status. Contemporary, sophisticated, and full of surprises, this is a new musical with a future!

The Marvelous Wonderettes
(Opening: September, 2017 –
Artistree – Woodstock, VT


This Off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where you meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As you learn about their lives and loves, the audience is treated to such classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” and “It’s My Party”! The theatre is in beautiful, lush central Vermont and Gary John is happy to be making his debut, directing and choreographing, this must-take musical trip down memory lane!

State University of NY at Buffalo


This will mark Gary John’s third appearance as Guest Artist in Residence for the Department of Theatre & Dance. Once again he will direct and choreograph this show which was a critical smash on Broadway and in London. He finds it fascinating, intriguing and resonant and is thrilled to be working on it again. The Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for true meaning in a post 9/11 world leads them on an exhilarating journey that will surely resonate with both students and audiences alike.

A White House Cantata
(Opening: February, 2018 –
Montclair State University, NJ


Gary John is thrilled to return to MSU, where he is adjunct faculty and has staged recent productions of Hair and Aida. Cantata is being produced as part of the centennial birthday celebration of Leonard Bernstein and Gary John is very excited to work on this material. Based on the musical score of Bernstein and Alan Jay Lerner’s much-debated 1976 Broadway musical 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, he will direct a fully staged concert version of this show with full orchestra.

Seminars and Workshops
(Spring, 2017)

Gary John will be a guest coach and give theatre workshops for visiting universities through the NY division of Actors Connection in conjunction with the students' Senior Class Agent Showcases. In addition, he will repeat these duties and be a Guest Judge for the Florida Thespian Festival held in Tampa, FL .

New Works

Gary John is currently involved with several completed musical scripts that are in various stages of development: “lift” (McAllister & Fazio); “The Baby Project” (Jaroslow, Feingold & Olling); “The Next Big Thing” (Lowenstein & Bailey).
